Getting Online
Three easy steps to get started…
Step 1 – get the correct device

Surfing in the garden
When you join the growing ranks of savvy seniors that are getting online, you will need to figure out what is the best device for your needs.
The following are activities that are of interest to seniors: emailing, skyping, social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc…) playing games (solitaire, puzzles etc…) streaming entertainment (plays, opera, films etc…) and, of course, browsing the Internet.
If you enjoy travelling a tablet with a good camera could be of interest. Many travelers take pictures, email and Skype with family and friends.

Step 2 – get connected to Wifi
If you do not have the Internet, you will have to call your cable provider to get connected. They provide a modem (this will connect you to the Internet). However, you will also need a Wifi router to connect your device in a wireless fashion. Your Internet provider may have a modem with an integrated router if not get a Wifi router at a reasonable price (no need to spend oodles) see my blog for suggestions.
Step 3 – get the basic training
You will definitely need some coaching, basics are de rigueur. If you have a computer, a mouse is recommended. Also, a standard computer screen is easier to navigate than a touch screen. The exceptions are computers and software designed for seniors. To get the basics, click on the GCFlearnfree logo this non-profit organization has excellent free online resources. When I find something better, which I doubt, I will update the information.
